10-Day Trip to Lalibela, Gondar & Simien Mountains

Day 1: Addis – Gondar

Fly to Gondar, the historic mountain capital. Transfer to your hotel and explore the Royal Enclosure’s medieval castles and the beautiful Debre Berhan Selassie Church with its angel-adorned ceilings.

Day 2: Gondar – Sankaber (3250 m)

Drive to Debark for park permits, pick up a scout, and begin an easy introductory trek in the Simien Mountains. Encounter gelada baboons and enjoy breathtaking escarpment views.

Day 3: Sankaber – Gich (3600 m)

Trek through Kaba Valley, past the 530 m-high Jinbar Waterfall, and climb to Gich Abyss. Picnic by the river and continue to Gich camp — great for spotting lammergeyers and ravens.

Day 4: Gich (3600 m)

Walk to Imet-Gogo (3926 m), Seha, and Kedadit viewpoints for panoramic mountain vistas. Enjoy sunset at Kedadit before returning to camp for dinner.

Day 5: Gich – Chennek (3600 m)

Descend into Jin Bahir Valley, then climb through Giant Lobelia fields and Erica Arboria forests across the wide plateau with scenic paths.

Day 6: Chennek – Buwahit – Chennek

Ascend Mount Buwahit (4430 m), the second-highest peak in Ethiopia, for views of Ras Dejen (4543 m). Return to camp for a relaxing evening.

Day 7: Chennek – Gondar

Relax in the morning before driving back to Gondar (5 hrs). Overnight in Gondar with leisure time to explore or rest.

Day 8: Gondar – Lalibela

Fly to Lalibela, Ethiopia’s “New Jerusalem.” Discover the world-famous rock-hewn churches, carved directly into volcanic rock and still active places of worship.

Day 9: Lalibela

Visit the eastern group of rock-hewn churches and the cave church of Nakutelab. End your day with an authentic Ethiopian coffee ceremony hosted by a local family.

Day 10: Lalibela – Addis Ababa

Morning flight back to Addis Ababa. Depending on your flight time, transfer to your hotel or to the airport. End of your memorable Ethiopian journey.
