Arrival & Welcome

A warm welcome to the capital of Ethiopia, and transfer to your hotel.

Day 2

Addis Ababa

City Exploration

Explore the city: National Museum (home of ‘Lucy’), St. George & Holy Trinity Cathedrals, and the vibrant Mercato, Africa’s largest market.

Day 3

Addis Ababa → Bahir Dar

Travel by Road or Flight

Reach Bahir Dar on Lake Tana, source of the Blue Nile. Afternoon hike to the stunning Blue Nile Falls.

Day 4

Bahir Dar

Lake Cruise

Full-day boat cruise across Lake Tana. Visit remote monasteries like Ura Kidane Mehret, Narga Selassie, and the Church of Debre Sina.

Day 5

Bahir Dar → Gondar

Scenic Drive

Drive about 3 hours to Gondar, the old mountain capital. Relax in the afternoon.

Day 6

Gondar

Castles & Churches

Explore Gondar’s medieval castles, the Royal Enclosure, and the Church of Debre Berhan Selassie with its painted angel ceiling.

Day 7

Gondar → Sankaber

Simien Mountains

Drive to Debark for park permits, then hike along the escarpment. Spot gelada baboons with stunning mountain views.

Day 8

Sankaber → Gich

Waterfalls & Wildlife

Hike via the Jinbar River and its 530m waterfall. Reach Gich camp, great for spotting lammergeyer and ravens.

Day 9

Gich

Viewpoints & Sunset

Visit Imet-Gogo, Seha, and Kedadit viewpoints. Endless Lobelia fields and breathtaking escarpments. Return to Gich camp.

Day 10

Gich → Chennek

Highland Hike

Descend into Jinbahir Valley, climb to 4070m summit, then descend to Chennek. Look for Walia Ibex near camp.

Day 11

Chenek → Buwahit → Debark

Peak & Wildlife

Climb Buwahit (4430m), second-highest peak. Spot Walia Ibex and view Ras Dejen. Return to Debark.

Day 12

Debark → Axum

Long Scenic Drive

Drive via gravel roads to Axum, ancient city of the Queen of Sheba. Arrive by evening.

Day 13

Axum

Historic Wonders

Explore the Stelae Fields, St. Mary of Zion Cathedral (home of the Ark of the Covenant), and Axum Museum.

Day 14

Axum → Gerehalta

Rock-Hewn Churches

Visit Yeha temple (800 BC), Debre Damo monastery, then continue to Gerehalta for Tigrian rock churches.

Day 15

Gerehalta → Mekele

Sacred Landscapes

See Abriha Atsbeha churches and Tigrian villages. Drive 3–4 hrs to Mekele and explore the city.

Day 16

Mekele → Lalibela

Village Routes

Drive to Lalibela, the “Jerusalem of Ethiopia.” Enjoy views of villages and local cultural dances along the way.

Day 17

Lalibela

Rock-Hewn Churches

Tour the famous rock-hewn churches, tunnels, and Nakutelab cave church. Join a traditional coffee ceremony.

Day 18

Lalibela → Addis Ababa

Return Flight

Fly back to Addis Ababa. End of the Northern Ethiopia tour.
