7-Day Simien Mountains Trek
Adventure of a Lifetime in Northern Ethiopia
Day 1: Gondar – Sankaber (3,250 m) | 3–4 hrs
Drive from Gondar to Debark (100 km / 2 hrs), arrange park permits, and meet your guide, cook, and scout. Enjoy an introductory hike along the northern escarpment with panoramic views and Gelada baboons.
Day 2: Sankaber – Gich (3,600 m) | 5–6 hrs
Follow the northern escarpment east, descend into Kaba Valley, and climb to Gich Abyss. Lunch by Jinbar River. End at Gich Camp, a prime spot to see Lammergeyer vultures and enjoy stunning views.
Day 3: Gich – Viewpoints Excursion | 5–6 hrs
Explore Giant Lobelia fields to reach Imet-Gogo cliffs (3,926 m). Visit Seha viewpoint before returning to Gich Camp. Afternoon hike to Kedadit for a magical sunset. Second night at Gich Camp for acclimatization.
Day 4: Gich – Chennek (3,600 m) | 7–8 hrs
Walk through Giant Lobelia fields, descend into Jinbahir River Valley, and follow the escarpment trail. Climb to 4,070 m summit for lunch, then descend to Chennek Camp with spectacular views. Spot Walia Ibex in the late afternoon.
Day 5: Chennek – Ambiko (3,240 m) | 7–8 hrs
Climb north of Buwahit Peak, cross Buwahit Pass, and descend to Chiro-Leba for lunch. Continue to cross Mesheha River and climb to Ambiko village through arid cactus landscapes.
Day 6: Ambiko – Ras Dejen and Back | 9–10 hrs
Pre-sunrise departure to Ras Dejen (4,543 m). Dress warmly and bring essentials. 4–6 hour ascent along scenic valley and rocky terrain to Ethiopia’s highest peak. Enjoy lunch atop Ras Dejen and descend in 3–4 hrs. Warm welcome at Ambiko Camp.
Day 7: Ambiko – Chennek – Gondar | 7–8 hrs
Retrace Day 5 route with a more ascending path. Enjoy new perspectives along the zigzag trail. Vehicle transport from Chennek back to Gondar (5 hrs) concludes the trek.

🙋♂️ Cancellation by You (the Traveler)
- 📅 More than 30 days before the tour: Full refund minus a 10% administrative fee.
- 📅 15–30 days before the tour: 50% refund of the total booking amount.
- 📅 Less than 15 days before the tour: No refund.
🏛️ Cancellation by SMT Tour
In rare cases, if SMT Tour must cancel a tour, you will receive a full refund. Whenever possible, we will also offer alternative dates or similar tour options.
🔄 Changes to Your Booking
Changes such as dates or number of travelers are subject to availability and may incur additional charges. Please contact us as early as possible to make adjustments.
🌪️ Force Majeure
SMT Tour is not responsible for cancellations due to events beyond our control, including natural disasters, political unrest, or pandemics. We will assist with rescheduling or providing credit for future tours.
💳 Refund Process
Refunds are processed to the original payment method within 7–14 business days after cancellation confirmation.
