Natural and Historical Itineraries
Day 1
Walk from debark to the first camp site Sankaber. It will be 6-7 hours walk and on this day you will see troops of Chelada baboon beside to the great walk through the escarpment, camping Sankaber
Day 2
Heading to the second camp site Gich. The specialty of the day will be seeing the waterfall which height 450-500 meters in addition to the marvelous landscapes which will be common for every day. There is also a village called Gich Village that we will walk through and if you are interested it is possible to stop for coffee ceremony and visit one of the huts to see the people life style. The walk takes us 5-6 hrs and camping at Gich.
Day 3
Walk to the most spectacular view and best observation points of the Simien Mountains called Imet-Gogo which has an altitude of 3926 m asl, and it is also one of the highest mountain peaks and back to Sankaber on the same day. This day’s walk takes 6-7 hrs and stay overnight at Sankaber.
Day 4
Walk back to Debark and most of way will be through the same way that we will take on the first day however it will be different in some parts and it is still interesting to see views and places from different perspective.
Day 1: Addis-Gondar
A Short Morning Flight Takes You To Gondar And A Warm Welcome To The Old Mountain Capital Of Gondar, And Transfer To Your Hotel. Gondar Has A Rich History With Its Beautiful And Strategic Mountain Setting, The 17th-Century Capital Was Once The Crossroads Of Several Major Caravan Routes, And Was Also Occupied By The Italians During World War II. The Art Deco Buildings Surrounding The Royal Enclosure With Its Medieval Castles And Churches Are A Reminder Of This Heritage. This Afternoon, Explore Gondar’s Castles And The Church Of DebreBerhan Selassie With Its Iconic Ceiling Of Painted Angel.
Day 2: Gondar-Sankaber(3250 M)
Drive From Gondar Early In The Morning To Debark The Place Where The Park Head Quarter Is Situated Where We Need To Spend About half an Hour To Do Entrance Fees And Pick The Scout Plus To Have Tea And Coffee Before Leaving To The Mountain, Then Keep On Driving To The Place Where Called MichibinyAnd Start The Introductory Walk To The First Camp Site SankaberFor About 3-4 Hours Along The Plateau Of The Mountain Far From The Edge Of The Mountain And Over Night At Sankaber. You Will Encounter Gelada Baboon Along This Hike.
Day 3: Sankaber-Gich(3600 M), 5-6 Hours
We Follow The Northern Escarpment Eastward, Before We Descend A Little Into The Kaba Valley. After That We Climb Up Before We Reach Gich Abyss And Continue Over A Narrow Ridge To A Cliff Where We Have A Spectacular View Of The Abyss Towards The SimienFoothills. We Also Find A Large Waterfall Here, Where The Jinbar River Plunges 500 M Into The Abyss. We Proceed For About Two Hours And Have Lunch At The Jinbar River. After Lunch We Walk Through Fields Of Barley Before We Arrive At The Idyllic Village Of Gich. Here We Can Enjoy A Traditional Coffee Ceremony In One Of The Huts And Learn More About Local Farm Life. From GichVillage It Is A Short Walk To GichCamp Which Is A Good Area To Look For Lammergeyer And Thick Billed Raven. After A Relaxing Afternoon, We Will Take A Short Hike Up To KedaditTo Enjoy Sunset Plus The Gorgeous Shaded Landscapes Down To The Cliff Side Towards To The Eastern Direction And Return To The Camp For Dinner.
Day 4: Gich-Chennek(3600 M), 7-8 Hrs
Walk From GichCamp We Stroll Through Endless Fields Of Giant Lobelia Before We Reach The Towering Cliffs Of Imet-Gogo(3926 M). Here We Will Spend Some Time To Absorb The Superb Views Over The Mountain Valleys Below And Strange Shaped Domes In The Distance, Which We Will See From Up Close At The End Of The Trip. After That We Descend Into The Jinbahir River Valley. In This Way We Get A Very Different Perspective Of Imet-Gogo And The Volcanic Landscape, Where It Looks Like Big Chunks Of Mountains Have Been Blown Away. The Trail Follows The Edge Of The Escarpment, Which Is Completely Vertical Here For Several Hundred Meters. We Climb To A Summit Of 4070 M Where We Will Have Lunch. After Lunch We Descend To Chennek For About Two Hours Along A Steep Trail. From Chennek Camp There Are Spectacular Views In All Directions. Sit Down On A Bench At The Escarpment And Try To Spot Walia Ibex In Late Afternoon Or Early Morning. Sometimes Walia Ibex Visit The Edges Of The Camp Site.
Day 5: Chennek-Buwahit-Chennek, 5-6 Hrs
On This Day The Character Of The Trek Is More Uphill And Downhill. It Is A Bit Tough While Climbing Up And Easier While Descend Back But It Is Totally Far From Sheer Cliffs. On This Trip, From The Top Of Mt. Buwahit(4430m), We Will Have The Opportunities To See The Highest Mountain Peak In The Entire Country Called Ras-Dejen(4543m) As Well As The Decent Views Of Mt. BuwahitItself. It Takes An Approximate Time Of 5-6 Hrs To Cover Both Ways And Drive Back To Gondar For About 5 Hrs.
Day 6: Gondar-Lalibela
Fly To The UNESCO World Heritage Site Of Lalibela- The Jerusalem Of Ethiopia, And Africa’s Own ‘Petra’. In A Fitting Finale To Your Ethiopian Adventure, Explore The Monolithic Red-Hued Churches Incredibly Carved Into The Rock. Your Guide Will Lead You Through The Network Of Crevices And Tunnels Linking Each Of The Churches. The Churches Are Still In Use Today.
Day 7: Lalibela
Today Your Guide Takes You To The Eastern Group Of Rock Hewn Churches: Smaller In Size, These Are No Less Impressive, With Intricate Carvings And Many Dark Tunnels To Explore! Travel Further Afield To The NakutelabRock-Hewn Church, Built Into The Side Of A Hill In A Natural Cave. The Afternoon Culminates In A Visit To A Private Home To Participate In An Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony.
Day 8: Lalibela-Addis
The End Of The Visit Will Be Flight Back To Our Capital Town Addis.

Day 1
Arrival at Bole international Hotel. Transfer to the Hotel.
Day 2,
Drive to Arba Minch, sightseeing on the way, stopping over at DebreZeit and Ziway. Overnight: Arba Minch.
Day 3
This Day in the morning drive to Arba Minch NechSar National park to have a game view of various kinds of wild animals such as zebras, Swain’s hartebeests, Greater kudu, gazelle, Secretary bird, etc. From the top of the Arba Minch National Parks plain you will have a closer view of both lakes. (Lake Chamo and Lake Abaya) Afternoon after lunch break we drive about 8 km to Lake Chamo to make a boat trip in order to visit giant crocodiles on the shore of the lake, moreover hippos in large numbers are accessible on the same lake, and you may have a closer look at them. Overnight: Arba Minch.
Day 4,
We proceed to Jinka via Konso and Woyto. Visiting semi-nomadic tribes: Konso and Tsemay.Konso is one of the world’s heritage site recorded by UNESCO due to its wonderful stone terracing to protect soil washing by erosion. The Konso tribal people are the most hardworking people in the region. Woyto is a territory of Tsemay people; we will stop over there to rest. Overnight: hotel in Jinka.
Day 5
Early morning drive to visit the Mursi tribe, a minority people living in the Lower Omo Valley. The Mursi tribe is well known for their clay lip-plates. Mostly, after harvesting season (Nov, Dec, Jan) you may see “Donga” stick fighting. A drive from Jinka to Mago then to Mursi village and back is amongst some of the most beautiful scenery due to high hills, mountains, and white grass plains. Overnight Hotel in Jinka.
Day 6,
If today is Thursday, we will have a bigger chance to visit the market of Key Afer where we will see Bena, Ari and Karos gathering together to buy and sell their merchandise such as honey, jewellery, farming tools, goat, cows etc. You may also have a chance – mostly in the afternoon – to visit locals having a pure honey wine. Afternoon, driving to Turmi. Overnight: Hotel in Turmi.
Day 7
Morning drive to the village of the Karo people. The Karo people are the most fascinating tribe due to clay painting on their faces and body. They live on the top plain and in the vicinity of the Omoriver. Overnight: Turmi.
Day 8
Morning drive to Omorate, visiting the Dasenech\Galeb tribes across the Omoriver. The Dasenech tribe lives in small huts on a flat plain above the river and is one of the most interesting tribes of the Omo valley. If today is SatuarDay, we will have a chance to visit the Dimeka Market where the Hamer and Karo Tribal people attend. In the afternoon a visit to a Hamer village is one of the fantastic experiences, and eventually you may experience a wonderful ceremony of “Bull Jumping” which usually takes half a Day starting from a ritual ceremony of flogging the girls’ backs with sticks by boys of the same family. Overnight at the camping site at Turmi.
Day 9,
Driving to Konso via Arebore, we will have a stopover at Arebore to visit the tribal people who are semi-nomadic pastoralists. They are known for their different dressing style. On this same Day, we visit a geological formation near a Konso village which really looks like a set of beautiful skyscrapers and is named New York but whose real local name is Gesergio. Additionaly we will have a chance to visit one of the villages with the so-called Generation Stone and see a standing carved wood sculpture (Waga) on the tomb side. Late in the afternoon proceed to Arba Minch. Overnight at Arba Minch Hotel.
Day 10, In the morning a visit to a village of the Dorze people who are well known with their craft of weaving as well as their 12-meter high huts made up of bamboo and false banana leaves. 42 km away from Arba Minch is a hilly mountain about 2700 m above sea level. You will have a nice scenery from the top of the Dorze and you will have a 360 degree view of Arba Minch including both lakes of Chamo and Abaya. We drive further to Bale. Overnight at hotel in Dinsho.
Day 11
Trekking in the Bale Mountains, on the Senate Plateau to have a scenic view of the Bale Mountains. A close look at the Red fox (The Red Jackal), an endemic species of Ethiopia, and other wild animals.Overnight Camping at the park site
Day 12
Half Day trekking and mule riding.Driving back to Dinsho.Overnight Dinsho.
Day 13
Drive to Addis Ababa via Rift Valley lakes, Shalla, Abyata and Ziway. An abundant number of flamingos and other water birds on the lake. A stopover at Langano which is the only recommended lake to swim in. Late afternoon arrival to Addis Ababa, shopping, farewell dinner at a traditional restaurant.Departure, End of Tour.

This is a kind of circle trip to the Bale Mountains. In this case it is going to be 13 days in total but we can do it 12 days. You can have a look day 7. That is optional. We can cancel this day and continue to the other comp site.
Day 1 Addis; city tour in Addis
Day 2 Axum In this day explore the oldest city in Ethiopia and land of the Queen of Sheba’s ancient kingdom, Axum. Visit the small but interesting museum, the impressive Stelae Fields and also the grounds of the 16th-century Cathedral of St. Mary of Zion, home of the original Ark of the Covenant.
Day 3 Axum-Mekele
Drive to the capital city of the Tigrian region Mekele. On this day you will still have a chance to visit some of the historical rock hewn Churches like Abriha Hatsibha and others. In addition to it you will see remote villages and the great landscapes of the region. It will be a short driving about 3-4 hrs a then Drive to Dallol, a settlement unoccupied except for its salt industry, and considered a ghost town. Geologically, the area is one of the very active areas of Ethiopia, with underground earth minerals that are pushed out due to high pressure and crystallized when coming in contact with atmospheric o
Day 4 Drive avala night at the gust house
Day 5 Drive to Erta Ale via Kusruad, a volcano whose name means “smoking mountain.” It takes 3.5 hours to trek up to the top of the mount where one can clearly observe the crater pit filled with a lake of lava. This is one of the only 4 volcanoes in the world a permanent lava lake. Spend the night camping.
Day 6 drive back to Mekel
on These day we will drive from the base camp to Lake Afdera and we will have some time there before we drive back Mekele. Night Axum hotel
Day 7: Fly Lalibela
We take a short flight to Lalibela then drive 23kms to the town where all the 11 monolithic Rock Hewn Churches of Lalibela are situated. Today we visit the first group of six churches lie in rock cradles one behind the other: Bet Golgotha, Bet Mika’el, Bet Maryam, Bet Meskel, Bet Danaghel and Bet Medhane Alem. Bet Medhane Alem, the largest one, is built like a Greek Temple and its stone floor is so polished by the countless numbers of visitors that it reflects shafts of light from apertures in the walls high above. In a corner are three empty graves symbolically dug for biblical patriarchs Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Overnight Roha or Jerusalem hotel
Day 8: In Lalibela
After breakfast drive to yimrahane kirstos The monastery is located at 40km away from Lalibella. This will take about 5 hours. We return back to the town for lunch.In the afternoon, visit of the other groups of Rock churches of Lalibela Bet Giyorgis, possibly the most elegant of all the Lalibela churches, lies somewhat isolated in the southwest part of the village on a sloping rock terrace. It can only be reached through a tunnel. The group of four, south of the Jordan River, comprise of Bet Emanuel, Bet Mercurios, Bet Abba Libanos and Bet Gabriel-Rufa’el. Bet Emanuel’s elaborate exterior is much praised by art historians. Overnight Roha or Jerusalem
Day 9: fly to Gondar After breakfast fly to-40 minuets to the old mountain capital of Gondar.
Gondar has a rich history with its beautiful and strategic mountain setting, the
17th-century capital was once the crossroads of several major caravan routes,
and was also occupied by the Italians during World War II. The Art Deco

Day 10: Gondar-Sankaber (3250 m), 3-4 hours
Early morning we drive along a good gravel road from Gondar to the park headquarters in Debark. The 100 km journey will take around three hours. At the headquarters we will arrange our permits to the park and pick up our scout. After that we will drive for another hour before we start our first day introductory walk. This first hike is an easy one along the northern edge of the escarpment with a nice view points over the foothills and plains of northern Ethiopia. You will encounter gelada baboon along this hike.
Day 11: Sankaber-Gich (3600 m), 5-6 hours
We follow the northern escarpment eastward, before we descend a little into the Kaba Valley. After that we climb up before we reach Gich Abyss over a narrow ridge to a cliff where we have a spectacular view of the abyss towards the Simien foothills. We also find a large waterfall here, where the Jinbar River plunges 500 m into the abyss. We proceed for about two hours and have lunch at the Jinbar River. After lunch we walk through fields of barley before we arrive at the idyllic village of Gich. Here we can enjoy a traditional coffee ceremony in one of the huts and learn more about local farm life. From Gich village it is ashort walk to Gich camp which is a good area to look for lammergeyer and thick billed raven. and gorgeous surrounding views.
Day 12: Gich-Chennek (3600m), 7-8 hrs
From Gich camp we initially start off through the same fields of Giant Lobelia as yesterday, but soon we descend into the Jinbahir River Valley. In this way we get a very different perspective of Imet-Gogo and the volcanic landscape, where it looks like big chunks of mountains have been blown away. The trail follows the edge of the escarpment, which is completely vertical here for several hundred meters. We climb to a summit of 4070 m where we will have lunch. After lunch we descend to Chennek for about two hours along a steep trail. From Chennek camp there are spectacular views in all directions. Sit down on abench at the escarpment and try to spot Walia Ibex in late afternoon or early morning. Sometimes Walia Ibex visit the edges of the camp site.
Day 13: Chenek-Buwahit, 5-6 hrs
Climb the second highest peak in the Simien mountains Buwahit (4430m) rewarding with one of the endemic wild animals in Ethiopia particularly in the Simien mountains called Walia Ibex (a goat family), in addition to the scenic views of surroundings including the chance to see the highest mountain peak in Ethiopia Ras-Dejen (4543m) and back down to chenek camp night camping at the same day you will drive back to Gondar,
Day 14 fly back to Addis.

Day 1: Arrive Addis Ababa A warm welcome to the capital of Ethiopia, and transfer to your Guest House, Ankober Guest House (B)
Day 2: Addis-Bahir DarA short flight takes you to the shores of Lake Tana, the source of the Blue Nile, where life revolves around the lake. A full day of exploration and contemplation as you cruise from south to north on Lake Tana and visit a selection of the remote island monasteries such as Ura Kidane Mehret with its beautiful frescoes, and Narga Selassie in its stunning island setting where time has stood still. Once on the northern lake shores, visit the Church of Debre Sina, Summerland Hotel or similar one (B)

Day 6: /Gich/, 4-5 hrsIn this day we will have one more night for the sake of two purposes to acclimatize the altitude and for the views surrounding there. So, walk to the three marvelous views namely Imet-Gogo, Seha and Kedadit. In this day the first view point Imet-Gogo /3926m/ is the best spectacular and observation points of the Simien Mountains which at least all the visitors should not advice to miss in the Simien Mountains. After spending most time around there walk back to the camp through the second viewpoints Seha /3785m/ and have a lunch at the camp. In the late afternoon walk to Kedadit /3765m/ for some reasons like the place is the best point to watch sunset and the gorgeous shaded landscapes down to the cliff side towards to the eastern direction and back to the camp for dinner.

Day 8: Chennek-Sona (3100 m), 6-7 hrsHeading to sona, the first three hrs path leads us up to one of the highest Mtn peak in the Simien Mountains called Buwahit (4430m). In addition to the scenic and descent surroundings we will still rewarding with the endemic wild animals in Ethiopia particularly in the Simien Mountains, Walia Ibex (a goat family). Then walk along series rocky downhill until we get 4200m for about 30 minutes and proceed down to camp through the edge side trail for another two hours until the towering cliffs of Imet-Gogo appear again. From here it is an easy walk to Sona, where it is situated near by school, just on the opposite side of Imet Gogo and has magnificent widow views.
Day 9: Sona-Mekarebia (2200m), 6-7 hrs Walking to Mekarebia passing through some parts of Sona village with gorgeous slope side views in the southern direction of the path along a steep downhill walk for three and half hours to a river where we can have a nice swimming which is neither very cold nor very warm called Insia. Having finished swimming, we need to spend some hours so as to share the life of enjoyable environment and if you are interested there is also coffee ceremony prepared by the local people out of their huts, just under the river which is really special, beside to that we can wash some light clothes that became dirt on the trip. After having a pleasant stay under the river, continue walking to the camp in the late after-noon for one and half hours through observing the bushy surroundings that has small valleys and attractive depressions accompanied by an evening shadow and the moderate weather which is totally different from that of the highlands and over night at established camp.
Day 10: Mekarebia-Mulit (1800m), 6-7 hrs Heading to the last camp Mulit, what is special in this day is crossing the same river that we had a swim the day before for about 5-6 times which is really interesting with quite lots of bird-lives and surrounded by a tributary river which has a big natural swimming pool called Derek-wonz where there is also a possibility to enjoy for a few hours including lunch break. Then keep on going for one and half hours a short uphill walk before reaching a small village called Awasza and from this point to the camping place the path leads to a grassy flat land that lies on the left bottom side of Awasza Mountain having a wide plateau that takes less than an hour. Since it is the last day evening we will have a special ceremony with our crews as farewell by having camping fire that accompanied by shoulder dancing (“ESKISTA”) which expresses our Ethiopian typical culture.
DAY 11:Mulit-Adiarkay- Gondar, 2 hrsOn this last day we will have a short and easy walk to Adiarkay then drive further north takes you to the oldest city in Ethiopia and land of the Queen of Sheba’s ancient kingdom, Axum. This afternoon explore the city. Visit the small but interesting museum, the impressive Stelae Fields and also the grounds of the 16th-century Cathedral of St. Mary of Zion, home of the original Ark of the Covenant.

The afternoon culminates in a visit to a private home to participate in an Ethiopian coffee ceremony.
Day 14 Lalibela-AddisThe end of the visit will be flight back to our capital town Addis.

Day 1: Arrive in Addis Ababa, city tour of Addis Ababa
On arrival in Addis Ababa you will be met by our representatives and transferred to Ghion Hotel. In the afternoon, city tour of Addis Ababa. O/n Ghion Hotel
Day 2: Addis Ababa – Debre MarkosAfter breakfast drive to Debre Markos via Dejen (the famous area for growing Teff, which is staple food of Ethiopians), after 103 kms drive, visit the 13th C monastery of Debre Libanos and the 17th C Portuguese Bridge. En route have stop over to visit the Oromo tribal village. Further down, you will enjoy the fabulous Blue Nile Gorge Similar to the Grand Canon of USA Overnight Debre Markos hotel.
Day 3: Debre Markos – Bahar Dar
Drive about 250kms to Bahar Dar (Bahar Dar is a modern town on the shore of Lake Tana,) through the beautiful scenery and visiting the Amhara people & their villages. Have a lunch at Bahar Dar, the capital of the Amhara National Regional State. Afternoon, we make city tour of Bahir Dar that includes: Colorful market where someone could find the pottery, traditional hand-made woven clothes, etc. The Woito Basket market and Mount Bezawit where the palace of Emperor Haile Selassie is gracefully situated. This hilltop is the best viewing point for the town , the lake and the river. Overnight Tana Hotel.
Day 4: Bahar DarAfter breakfast drive to the small town of Tiss Abay to visit to the impressive Blue Nile Falls, locally known as Tis Isat or ‘Smoke of Fire’. The falls throws up a continuous spray of water droplets which drench onlookers up to a kilometre away. Much of the water is diverted to for Hidro electric Generation but it is worth visiting for the walk around and see the rural life. The area around the river is extremely fertile and the Amhara people who live here farm wheat, sorghum and Teff (from which injera, the national bread, is made. After the Falls, return to Bahir Dar for lunch The rest of the afternoon visit the local market of the town where local people from the country side and the people from the town gather for selling and buying the produce. Day 5: Drive Gondar Tour of Gondar
We experience typically in an Ethiopian African landscape as we drive from Bahir Dar to Gondar- 180 kms over wide grazing land, hilly mountains with numerous farmlands. The rest of the day visit attractions in Gondar. The attractions that we visit in Gondar includes: Castles of Gondar- are included in the World Heritage List. the royal Fasiledes Bath and the Church of Debre Berhan Selassie with its unique murals. Day 6: Drive Simien MountainsAfter breakfast departure for Debark town (100 Kms from Gondar), where the head quarter of Semien Mountains National Park is found. Here we pay the entrance fees and a scout and a local guide will accompany us. Then we continue driving to the gravel road to Buyit Ras, the first campsite of the National Park and your lodge for the night. On this drive you will gain your first impression of the scale and beauty of this highland region, the extraordinary scenery, enjoying the endemic Gelada Baboons and the bone breaker giant bird Lammergeyer roaring around. Day 7: Drive Axum
On this day, you drive long (280kms) but enjoying very beautiful and spectacular landscape along the Semien Mountains and Tekeze Gorge. The road descends from 3100 metres through hairpin bends down the mountain side to 1400 metres in just 40kms! The drive down and back up to Adi Arkay showcases not only the immensely beautiful Simien Mountain massifs but also the people who eke out an existence in this unforgiving countryside. The drive continues through the Tekeze valley, crossing the Tekeze River, and onto Askum in the far north. Overnight Remhay Hotel
Day 8: Visit of historical and archaeological sites in Axum
The ancient city of Aksum is found close to Ethiopia’s northern border. It marks the location of the heart of ancient Ethiopia, when the Kingdom of Aksum was the most powerful state between the Eastern Roman Empire and Persia. The archaeological and historical attractions in Axum include: the archaeological museum, monolithic steles or obelisks, the tombs of King Kaleb and King Gebre Meskal, and the legendary Bath of the Queen of Sheba, and the ruins of ancient palace of Queen Sheba. We also visit the new and the old Cathedral of St Mary of Zion and the sanctuary that houses the original Arc of the covenant. The 16th Century Cathedral of St Mary of Zion was probably built on an earlier 4th century church, and is the holiest church in Ethiopia. Day 9: Drive from Axum to Mekele
After breakfast drive through the historical town of Adwa, which is the major African battlefield and drive to the very small town of Yeha to visit the 5th century B.C imposing ruins of Yeha’s temple. It was a large pre-Christian temple consisting of a single oblong chamber. The temple is believed to be the oldest standing building in the country. You will also visit the 6th century A.D church of Aba Afse –the church, sharing the same compound with the temple, is rectangular in shape. Continue driving to Mekele-the capital of Tegray region en route visit Rock church of Wekro Cherkos and Abreha WE Asbeha. Overnight Mekele Axum Hotel.
Day 10: Mekele – Lalibela
On this day, you will have the longest drive through the rough nature of road but nice to experience along with the magnificent scenery (gigantic, ups and downs landscape). You will have a chance to visit Lake Ashenge and good for birding. Proceed to Lalibela for dinner and overnight at Jerusalem Hotel Hotel.
Day11: Lalibela
Full day sightseeing tour of Lalibela: Lalibela, famous for its rock hewn churches dating back 800 years, There are no less than 1000 churches in the Lasta Region of Lalibela, some hidden in enormous caves, but it’s exceptional to find 11 churches of such master craftsmanship in one locale. These brilliant feats of engineering and architecture are often referred to as the “Eighth wonder of the world”. The afternoon is spent exploring the atmospheric subterranean complex of passages and the 11 remarkable rock-hewn churches. Overnight Jerusalem Hotel.
Day 12: Lalibela – Kombolcha
After breakfast drive through the highland area of Delb where you can see the endemic mammal of Gelada Baboon. Have stop over at Hayk to visit the 13th C monastery of Hike Istifanos on the island of Lake Hike. Proceed to Dessie for dinner and overnight at Fasika Hotel.
Day 13: Kombolcha – Awash
Drive to Awash National Park the best game viewing reserve in Ethiopia. Over night Genet Hotel
Day 14: Drive – Harar
After breakfast drive from Awash Sebat Killo to Harar. We will be driving through the Hararghe Mountains and we will see plenty of coffee and ‘chat’ fields. The region is well known in growing one of the best qualities of coffee in the country. Finally we will arrive in Harar early in the afternoon. Overnight Belayneh hotel
Day 15: In Harar
The same day you visit the colorful Muslim and Christian markets (known for basketry), the museum, and the traditional Hararie houses situated within the famous walled city. In the evening visit the hyena man while he feeds the hungry hyenas (wonderful experience). Overnight Belayneh hotel
Day 16: Drive to Addis Ababa Evening departure
After breakfast we drive to Addis Ababa. Evening we will have a fare well dinner in one of the Ethiopian restaurants for cultural dinner and dances from the different ethnic groups. Then after transfer to the airport for flight back home.
Day 2 Addis Ababa
Explore the city of Addis Ababa, founded in 1886. Visit the National Museum, home to the fossilized hominid ‘Lucy’; St. George and Holy Trinity Cathedrals; and, for those keen to see an authentic African market, a walk through the largest in Africa, Mercato.
Day 3: Addis Ababa – Bahir Dar
In this day you have an option either using public land transportation or taking a short flight to Bahir Dar (the shores of Lake Tana, the source of the Blue Nile), where life revolves around the lake and you will find the local fishermen at work in traditional papyrus reed boats. An afternoon hike takes you to the beautiful Tis Isat Falls, also known as the Blue Nile Falls.
Day 4: Bahir Dar
A full day of exploration (and contemplation) as you cruise from south to north on Lake Tana. Visit a selection of the remote island monasteries such as Ura Kidane Mehret with its beautiful frescoes, and Narga Selassie in its stunning island setting where time has stood still. Once on the northern lake shores, visit the Church of Debre Sina and back to our hotel.
Day 5: Bahir Dar-Gondar
A short drive through public transportation for about three hours to the old mountain capital of Gondar for about 3 hrs sight seen full day.Gondar has a rich history with its beautiful and strategic mountain setting, the 17th-century capital was once the crossroads of several major caravan routes, and was also occupied by the Italians during World War II. The Art Deco buildings surrounding the Royal Enclosure with its medieval castles and churches are a reminder of this heritage. This afternoon, explore Gondar’s castles and the Church of Debre Berhan Selassie with its iconic ceiling of painted angels.
Day 6: Gondar-Sankaber (3250 m), 3-4 hrs
Drive from Gondar early in the morning to Debark the place where the park head quarter is situated where we need to spend about one hour to do entrance fees and pick the scout plus to have tea and coffee before leaving to the mountain, then keep on driving to the place where called Michibiny and start the introductory walk to the first camp site Sankaber for about 6km away before the camp for like 3-4 hours along the escarpment and over night at Sankaber. You will encounter gelada baboon along this hike.
Day 7: Sankaber-Gich (3600 m), 5-6 hrs
We follow the northern escarpment eastward, before we descend a little in to the Kaba valley. After that we continue over a narrow ridge to a cliff where we have a spectacular view of the Abyss towards the Simien foothills. We also find a large waterfall here; the Jinbahir River plunges 500 m in to the Abyss. We proceed for one and half an hour to the place where we have a lunch at the Jinbahir River. After lunch we walk through the fields of Barley before we arrive at the idyllic village of Gich. Here we can enjoy a traditional coffee ceremony in one of the huts and learn more about local farm life. From Gich village it is a short walk to Gich camp which is a good area to look for Lammergeyer and Thick-billed raven.
Day 8: Gich-Chenek (3600 m), 7-8 hrs
From Gich camp we initially start off through the same fields of Giant Lobelia as the day before, but soon we descent in to the huge Jinbahir River valley. In this way we get a very different perspective of Imet-gogo and the volcanic landscape, where it looks like big chunks of mountains have been blown away. The trail follows the edge of the escarpment, which is completely vertical for several hundred meters. We climb to summit of 4070m where we will have lunch. After lunch we descend to chennek for about two hrs along a steep trail. From Chennek camp there are spectacular views in all directions. Sitting on a bunch at the escarpment and try to spot Walia Ibex in late afternoon or early morning. Some times Walia Ibex visit the edges of the escarpment.
Day 9: Chennek-Sona (3100 m), 6-7 hrs
Heading to sona, the first three hrs path leads us up to one of the highest Mtn peak in the Simien Mountains called Buwahit (4430m). In addition to the scenic and descent surroundings we will still rewarding with the endemic wild animals in Ethiopia particularly in the Simien Mountains, Walia Ibex (a goat family). Then walk along series rocky downhill until we get 4200m for about 30 minutes and proceed down to camp through the edge side trail for another two hours until the towering cliffs of Imet-Gogo appear again. From here it is an easy walk to Sona, where it is situated nearby school, just on the opposite side of Imet Gogo and has magnificent window views.Day 10: Sona-Mekarebia (2200m), 6-7 hrs Walking to Mekarebia passing through some parts of Sona village with gorgeous slope side views in the southern direction of the path along a steep downhill walk for three and half hours to a river where we can have a nice swimming which is neither very cold nor very warm called Insia. Having finished swimming, we need to spend some hours so as to share the life of enjoyable environment and if you are interested there is also coffee ceremony prepared by the local people out of their huts, just under the river which is really special, beside to that we can wash some light clothes that became dirt on the trip. After having a pleasant stay under the river, continue walking to the camp in the late after-noon for one and half hours through observing the bushy surroundings that has small valleys and attractive depressions accompanied by an evening shadowand the moderate weather which is totally different from that of the highlands and over night at established camp.
Day 11: Mekarebia-Mulit (1800m), 6-7 hrs
Heading to the last camp Mulit, what is special in this day is crossing the same river that we had a swim the day before for about 5-6 times which is really interesting with quite lots of bird-lives and surrounded by a tributary river which has a big natural swimming pool called Derek-wonz where there is also a possibility to enjoy for a few hours including lunch break. Then keep on going for one and half hours a short uphill walk before reaching a small village called Awasza and from this point to the camping place the path leads to a grassy flat land that lies on the left bottom side of Awasza Mountain having a wide plateau that takes less than an hour. Since it is the last day evening we will have a special ceremony with our crews as farewell by having camping fire that accompanied by shoulder dancing (“ESKISTA”) which expresses our Ethiopian typical culture.
Day 12: Muli to Adiarkay and then drive to Axum, night Yaha hotel,
Drive to the oldest city in Ethiopia and land of the Queen of Sheba’s ancient kingdom, Axum. This afternoon explore the city. Visit the small but interesting museum, the impressive Stelae Fields and also the grounds of the 16th-century Cathedral of St. Mary of Zion, home of the original Ark of the Covenant. Day 13 : Axum-Gerehalta/Hawzen/on this day the visit from Axum can be extended to take in the 800 BC pre-Axumite temple at Yeha, 55 km east of Axum, and a little further, the 7th century monastery at Debre Damo where the only access is by rope. After that keep driving to Gerehalta through scenic landscapes but this monastery is only for mans. It is not allowed for Sightseeing around Gerehalta, mainly the two well known historical rock hewn Churches /Abune-Yemata and Mariam Korkos/.
Day 14: Gerehalta-Mekele
Drive to the capital city of the Tigrian region Mekele. On this day you will still have a chance to visit some of the historical rock hewn Churches like Abriha Hatsibha and others. In addition to it you will see remote villages and the great landscapes of the region. It will be a short driving about 3-4 hrs and you will have a chance to explore the city of Mekele unless otherwise you want to stay another day.
Day 15: Mekele-Lalibela
Drive to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Lalibela – the Jerusalem of Ethiopia, and Africa’s own ‘Petra’. It will be quite a long driving, but joy full driving through remote villages where you can see the welcoming dancing of the boys and girls when they see you in between and I am sure you will be very impressed by their all activities as the area is notable for the countries shoulder dancing.
Day 16: Lalibela
Before midday explore the monolithic red-hued churches incredibly carved into the rock. Your guide will lead you through the network of crevices and tunnels linking each of the churches. The churches are still in use today. In the afternoon your guide takes you to the eastern group of rock hewn churches: smaller in size, these are no less impressive, with intricate carvings and many dark tunnels to explore! Travel further afield to the Nakutelab rock-hewn church, built into the side of a hill in a natural cave. The afternoon culminates in a visit to a private home to participate in an Ethiopian coffee ceremony.
Day 17: Lalibela-Addis
The end of the northern visit will be a flight back to our capital town Addis.
